Applications are open for the ProPublica Emerging Reporters Program 2026-2027. Organized by ProPublica, an independent nonprofit newsroom in the United States, the programme is designed to support aspiring journalists who are working at or interested in working for college journalism outlets. Through financial support, mentorship, and professional development opportunities, the programme aims to help students build successful careers in investigative and public interest journalism.

Each year, ProPublica selects a small cohort of emerging reporters from diverse backgrounds, particularly those who are economically disadvantaged. Participants receive mentorship from experienced journalists and gain exposure to leading investigative reporting practices while expanding their professional networks within the journalism industry. Selected participants will receive a stipend of $9,000, mentorship from ProPublica journalists, and funding to attend a journalism conference such as the Investigative Reporters & Editors conference. Fellows will gain hands-on insights into investigative journalism, develop valuable reporting skills, and become part of a growing network of journalism professionals committed to producing impactful stories.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be students who work for or have a demonstrated interest in working for college journalism outlets, including newspapers, websites, radio stations, or television stations. ProPublica welcomes applications from individuals from all backgrounds and places particular emphasis on supporting students who have faced economic barriers or who are underrepresented in journalism.

Candidates should have a strong interest in investigative reporting, accountability journalism, and storytelling that serves the public interest.
