Selected winners of the Science Without Borders® Challenge receive scholarships: 1st place winners can win up to USD 500, with 2nd and 3rd place prizes also awarded (for example USD 350 for 2nd, USD 200 for 3rd in recent years). There is also a “People’s Choice” award offering additional scholarship credits. Beyond the financial awards, winners benefit from global exposure: their artwork is showcased internationally, helping them raise awareness of ocean conservation through their creativity. 

This contest is open to students aged 11 to 19 years who are enrolled in primary or secondary school (or the home-school equivalent). College or university students are not eligible. Participants must create original two-dimensional artwork (such as drawings or paintings) on the current year’s theme and submit an artist statement that explains how their work illustrates the theme. The entries are judged in two age categories (11-14 and 15-19) and must conform to the contest rules regarding originality, media, and submission format.
