Additional Information

Host Institution
* UNESCO * Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme
Program Type
Fully Funded
Program Benefits
Selected candidates will receive research funding of up to US$5,000 to support their projects. This funding can be used for fieldwork, data collection, and other research-related expenses.

Beyond financial support, the award provides international recognition and credibility, significantly enhancing a researcher’s academic and professional profile. Fellows also gain opportunities to connect with a global network of scientists working on environmental sustainability and conservation.

The programme encourages knowledge sharing and collaboration across countries, helping young researchers contribute to global environmental solutions while advancing their careers.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be young researchers who are 35 years old or younger at the time of application. They are required to submit a well-developed research proposal that focuses on ecosystems, biodiversity, or natural resource management, ideally linked to biosphere reserves under the MAB Programme.

A key requirement is that each application must be officially endorsed by the applicant’s national MAB Committee (or UNESCO National Commission where applicable). Each country can nominate only a limited number of candidates per year, making the selection process highly competitive.

Preference is given to interdisciplinary projects that align with global sustainability goals, particularly those contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Hangzhou Strategic Action Plan 2026–2035. Applicants from developing countries are strongly encouraged to apply, while those from developed countries are considered mainly if they collaborate with developing regions.
Eligible Countries
Open to all countries worldwide (with strong priority for developing countries)
