Applications are open for the 2026 Youth Video Competition organized by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) in partnership with the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI). The competition is part of the annual Outer Space Security Conference and provides young people from around the world with an opportunity to contribute their ideas on the future of space security. Winners will be invited to attend the conference in Geneva, Switzerland, where their work will be showcased to an international audience of policymakers, researchers, diplomats, and industry experts.

Program Benefits
Selected winners will receive a fully funded trip to Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the Outer Space Security Conference 2026. The funding covers round-trip economy airfare, accommodation during the conference, and per diem support for some meals.
Winning videos will be premiered during the conference, giving participants the opportunity to present their ideas before an international audience. Selected videos will also be featured on UNIDIR platforms, increasing the visibility of participants’ work and perspectives on global space security issues. Additionally, winners may have the opportunity to transform their video project into a published commentary on the UNIDIR website.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be between 18 and 25 years old and may submit only one entry. The video must be original work created by the participant. Submissions should focus on this year’s theme, which invites young researchers, engineers, and scientists to present original ideas and research on innovations that can improve the security, resilience, and sustainability of space systems.
Participants are required to create a video lasting between one and three minutes. Generative AI may not be used to create the core narrative, script, or presenter likeness. However, AI-assisted tools may be used for technical visualizations and engineering illustrations if the underlying concept is entirely the entrant’s own work and the use of AI is disclosed in the submission form. Fully AI-generated videos are not permitted and may result in disqualification.
