Applications are open for the Women in Agriculture Leadership Program Fellowship under the Africa–Australia Partnership for Climate Responsive Agriculture. This fellowship is a career development initiative designed to strengthen the leadership capacity, confidence, and influence of African women scientists working in agriculture and climate-related fields. The program supports women researchers who are contributing to climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable food systems across the continent.
The fellowship focuses on empowering women scientists to become leaders in agricultural research and innovation while addressing climate change challenges affecting food production. Through leadership training, mentoring partnerships, and professional development activities, the program aims to help participants become influential actors in shaping climate-resilient agricultural systems and policies.
The two-year program is non-residential and combines virtual and in-person learning activities. Participants engage in mentorship relationships, leadership development training, and networking opportunities that connect them with experts, researchers, and institutions working on agricultural and climate issues in Africa.

The fellowship also includes a structured mentoring system where fellows are paired with experienced mentors while also mentoring early-career researchers. This three-tier mentorship model encourages knowledge exchange, leadership growth, and long-term collaboration within the agricultural research community.
Participants will gain access to networking opportunities with agricultural experts, researchers, and institutions across Africa and beyond. They will also collaborate with alumni and partners from the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) network, strengthening their professional visibility and impact in climate-resilient agriculture.
Applicants are expected to hold at least a master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as agriculture, agricultural economics, agricultural extension, natural resource management, food science, nutrition, climate science, or similar fields from a recognized university. In addition, candidates must have a minimum of seven years of professional experience in agriculture, climate research, gender integration, or related sectors.
Eligible applicants must be nationals of the program’s target countries and reside in Africa. They should demonstrate strong motivation and potential to influence gender-responsive and climate-resilient research within their institutions and across broader agrifood systems. Applicants must also be proficient in either English or French to participate fully in program activities.
