FULLY FUNDED TO FIJI: Apply for the IOM training on Climate Mobility for young Pacific changemakers!
From July 7th to 9th, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with assistance from UNESCAP and OHCHR, will hold a comprehensive training program focused on Climate Mobility. Participants chosen for this initiative will have their travel and lodging expenses fully covered.
This effort is part of the second phase of the Pacific Climate Change Migration and Human Security (PCCMHS) program, which aims to enhance the resilience and adaptability of Pacific Islanders facing climate change and disaster challenges. The goal is to ensure that movements of populations—whether by choice or necessity—are managed in ways that prevent unnecessary displacement and offer viable relocation solutions.
The PCCMHS program is designed to promote collaboration among governments in the Pacific region and sub-region, encouraging the development and implementation of national strategies that address issues of climate mobility. Additionally, it seeks to empower civil society, community members, labor organizations, and business groups to engage meaningfully in shaping climate mobility policies at various levels.
Delivered by IOM in collaboration with partners such as the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), International Labour Organization (ILO), Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD), and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), this program reflects a commitment to shared leadership and cross-sector engagement.
In preparation for the regional rollout of this initiative, IOM has developed a comprehensive Pacific Climate Mobility Training Package, complete with a detailed facilitator guide. This package underwent a pilot phase during a three-day session in December 2024, followed by validation at a two-day stakeholder workshop in February 2025. The training modules emphasize interactive learning, including activities that simulate real-life scenarios, role-playing, and group exercises designed to promote active participation and contextual understanding.
Participants for this training will be selected based on specific criteria, with priority given to individuals from the Pacific Islands or those living and working in the region. Attendees must be available for travel between July 5th and July 11th to take part in the training in Nadi, Fiji. This opportunity is geared exclusively toward individuals working in civil society, community initiatives, or as representatives of workers’ organizations or businesses.
