Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 DAAD Development-Related Postgraduate Courses Scholarships, an opportunity designed to support future leaders committed to driving sustainable change in their home countries. Through its development-focused postgraduate programmes, DAAD invests in the education of highly qualified professionals from developing and newly industrialised nations, recognising that strong local expertise, connected to global networks, is essential for reducing poverty, improving access to education and healthcare, and building more resilient societies. The scholarship is open to international graduates from all academic backgrounds who come from eligible countries and who have accumulated a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience, offering them the chance to pursue a Master’s degree at a public or state-recognised German university and, in exceptional cases, a doctoral qualification.

The funding period ranges between 12 and 42 months depending on the chosen programme, and successful applicants receive a monthly stipend of approximately 992 euros for Master’s candidates and 1,300 euros for doctoral candidates, which will increase to 1,400 euros from February 2026. The scholarship also covers health, accident and personal liability insurance, and typically includes a travel allowance unless these costs are already funded by another source. In certain situations, additional support may be available, such as a monthly housing contribution or an allowance for accompanying family members. Selection is highly competitive and focuses on applicants with strong academic records, a relevant Bachelor’s degree, proven professional experience, and clear evidence that their motivation is closely linked to development goals. Priority is given to candidates who demonstrate the potential to contribute meaningfully to social progress and who are committed to using the knowledge and skills gained in Germany to create positive change in their communities and professional environments.
