FULLY FUNDED TO JAPAN : Apply for the Asia Pacific University ADB Scholarship 2027
Applications are open for the Asia Pacific University ADB Scholarship 2027, offering students from eligible developing countries the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in Japan. The scholarship is supported through the Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) and provides financial assistance to selected students undertaking graduate studies at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU).
The scholarship is designed for professionals and graduates interested in development-related fields and aims to equip them with advanced knowledge and skills that can contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.
About the ADB-JSP Scholarship
The ADB-JSP Scholarship offers talented students from eligible ADB member countries the opportunity to undertake a full-time master’s degree at selected institutions in Japan.
At APU, the scholarship supports the September 2027 intake and provides funding for up to two years, subject to satisfactory academic progress. Applicants must first apply for admission to an eligible graduate programme at APU and request consideration for the ADB-JSP scholarship through the university's application system.
Eligible Master's Programmes
The scholarship is available for development-related master's programmes offered at APU. Relevant programmes include:
- Asia Pacific Studies
- International Relations
- Society and Culture
- International Public Administration
- Development Economics
- Sustainability Science
- Tourism and Hospitality
Applicants who hold dual citizenship involving a developed country may not be eligible.
Required Employment Evidence
Applicants will need to demonstrate the required professional experience. A Certificate of Employment should indicate details such as employment dates, position and income.
Where the current position does not provide two years of work experience, applicants may also need to submit employment documentation from a previous employer.
Application Deadlines
There are two application periods for the September 2027 intake:
- ADB Scholarship 1: November 5, 2026
- ADB Scholarship 2: January 8, 2027

- The initial scholarship award is generally provided for one year, with continuation depending on the student's academic performance.
- Be a citizen of an ADB borrowing member country or another country eligible for Japanese ODA scholarships.
- Be residing in their home country when applying.
- Be 35 years old or younger at the time of application.
- Hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
- Have at least two years of full-time professional work experience gained after completing a bachelor's degree.
- Demonstrate strong English communication skills.
Gain admission to an eligible master's programme at APU.
- Not already be enrolled in an APU graduate programme.
- Not be applying for a second master's degree.
- Agree to return to their home country after completing the programme.
- Meet the ADB-JSP requirements concerning citizenship and residency.
