Applications are now open for the King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme (KCFP) Undergraduate Fellowships 2027, an opportunity supporting talented students from eligible Commonwealth Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to pursue undergraduate studies at selected universities within their home country or region.

The fellowship is designed to help address skills gaps in areas that are important to the long-term development and resilience of island communities. Through university study, financial assistance, professional development and access to a wider alumni network, the programme seeks to equip young people with the knowledge and practical skills needed to contribute to sectors such as education, engineering, healthcare and sustainable tourism.

Successful Fellows will receive full tuition fee support where tuition is not already covered by the government, as well as a stipend to help meet basic living expenses. Where applicable, Fellows will also receive one return journey to their home island for each year of study.

The programme is open to applicants who hold citizenship or refugee status in eligible Commonwealth SIDS across the Caribbean and Americas, Indian Ocean and Pacific regions. Eligible countries include Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

Applicants must be due to begin an undergraduate programme between January and December 2027 and must not already hold a higher education qualification such as a bachelor’s degree or postgraduate qualification. Candidates must also apply for one of the approved undergraduate programmes offered through a KCFP Host University.

Students are expected to study at an approved Host University in their home country where one is available. If there is no participating university in their country, applicants may be able to study at an approved institution within their immediate region, depending on the arrangements for their country.

Approved study options include programmes in public health, nursing, environmental health, education, mathematics, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, geomatics, town and country planning, occupational safety and health management, travel and tourism management, and special educational needs.

Participating institutions include Fiji National University, National University of Samoa, Papua New Guinea University of Technology, University of Belize, University of Mauritius, University of Technology, Mauritius, University of the West Indies (Cave Hill), and Villa College. The programmes available and countries eligible for each university vary, so applicants should carefully check the approved programme list and admission requirements before applying.
