FULLY FUNDED TO AUSTRIA, SWEDEN AND THE U.K: Apply for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (MESPOM) 2027–2029
Applications are now open for the 2027–2029 Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (MESPOM), a two-year international master’s programme designed for students and emerging professionals interested in environmental sustainability, policy and management. The programme brings together Central European University, Lund University, the University of Manchester and the University of the Aegean, giving students the opportunity to study in different European academic environments while developing expertise in addressing complex environmental challenges.
The programme carries 120 ECTS credits and combines academic learning with practical experience, allowing participants to explore environmental issues from scientific, policy and management perspectives. Students spend the first year between Central European University in Vienna, Austria, and the University of the Aegean in Lesvos, Greece, followed by an internship period during the summer. The second year is undertaken at either Lund University in Sweden or the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, while students can complete their master’s thesis at one of the consortium’s partner institutions.
Participants can develop expertise in areas including climate change and sustainable energy, biodiversity and conservation, urban sustainability, sustainable production and consumption, as well as environmental security and justice. The programme also provides opportunities to gain practical experience, participate in research, build international professional networks and work with organisations involved in environmental and sustainability issues.
MESPOM welcomes applicants from countries around the world. Applicants are generally expected to hold a strong bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with a GPA of 3.5 or above, in environmental sciences, environmental policy, environmental management, natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, management or a related discipline. Applicants from other academic backgrounds may also be considered where they can demonstrate a strong commitment to addressing environmental challenges through professional experience, voluntary work, research or other relevant activities. A strong command of English is also required.
The programme offers financial support opportunities for eligible students, including Erasmus Mundus scholarships and other forms of financial assistance, depending on the funding available for the relevant intake. Scholarship support can include contributions towards tuition and participation costs, travel, visa expenses and living costs, subject to the specific scholarship conditions. Because funding arrangements can change between admission cycles, applicants should check the official MESPOM announcement for the 2027–2029 intake to confirm the scholarships and benefits available.
Admission to MESPOM is highly competitive, with applications assessed based on academic performance, intellectual ability, motivation, relevant experience and the applicant’s demonstrated commitment to environmental challenges. Central European University coordinates the application process on behalf of the MESPOM consortium, and applicants will be required to submit their applications online together with the necessary supporting documents.
