The Utrecht University has opened applications for the Critical Pathways Fellowship 2026, organized in collaboration with the Towards a Circular Economy and Society initiative.
The program welcomes individuals interested in exploring sustainable and equitable futures by examining hidden systems, social structures, and power dynamics shaping environmental degradation and inequality worldwide.
The fellowship encourages unconventional perspectives and interdisciplinary thinking, creating space for voices often underrepresented in traditional academic environments.
Fellowship Theme — Making Visible the Invisible
The 2026 edition focuses on uncovering overlooked dimensions of modern life, including:
- Hidden environmental impacts of production and consumption systems
- Social and ecological costs of global supply chains
- Inequalities embedded in economic and technological transitions
- Alternative pathways toward regenerative and circular societies
Selected fellows are expected to develop work that not only critiques current systems but also experiments with new approaches to sustainability and justice.
Fellowship Activities
Participants will:
- Investigate overlooked stories or systemic challenges related to sustainability
- Present their work through formats such as workshops, exhibitions, performances, screenings, or public discussions
- Engage with researchers, students, and external partners
- Build collaborative networks within and beyond the university community
