FULLY FUNDED TO SOUTH AFRICA: Apply for the Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC) 2025 Fellowship for Investigative Journalists

Applications are now being accepted for fellowships to attend the 2025 edition of the African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC2025), which will take place from November 5 to 7, 2025, at Wits University in Johannesburg. Marking its 21st anniversary, the event is organized by the Wits Centre for Journalism, which is calling on reporters, media experts, educators, and trainers to put forward suggestions for speakers, panel discussions, key topics, or skill-building workshops that would enhance the relevance and impact of this year’s gathering.

Two distinct fellowship streams are available for the 2025 conference. The first targets up-and-coming journalists who are under 30 years old and have no more than five years of experience in the field. The second is tailored for more seasoned professionals who have worked in journalism for over five years. Freelancers are also encouraged to apply for both categories.

To be eligible, applicants must hold a passport that remains valid for a minimum of six months after the conference ends. Those selected will be expected to produce at least one investigative piece—whether for print, online, or broadcast media—drawing on insights and contacts gained at the event. This work must be completed and published within three months after the conference concludes. Prospective fellows will also need to submit documentation confirming their age and a resume that includes links or references to previously published material.

The fellowship package will take care of key travel and attendance-related expenses. These include round-trip airfare from the participant’s country of residence to Johannesburg, local transfers, hotel accommodation, registration fees, and meals throughout the event.
