Applications are open for the World Heritage Young Professionals Forum 2026, taking place from 13 to 21 July 2026 in the Republic of Korea under the theme World Heritage, Communities and Education: Empowering Youth as Agents of Change. Organized within the framework of the UNESCO World Heritage Education Programme and linked to the World Heritage Convention, the Forum will bring together 30 young professionals from around the world to engage in dialogue, learning and exchange on the role of communities, youth and education in strengthening the protection, management and transmission of World Heritage. At the conclusion of the Forum, participants will collectively present their Youth Declaration to the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee.

The World Heritage Young Professionals Fora are flagship initiatives designed to foster intercultural learning, peer-to-peer exchange and professional engagement among young people working in the heritage field. They provide a unique platform for participants to deepen their understanding of the World Heritage Convention and its implementation, engage with site managers, communities and institutions, and participate in site-based learning at World Heritage properties. The 2026 edition will focus on how community knowledge and participation can strengthen conservation and management practices, how education and research can support informed decision-making, and how young people can act as mediators, advocates and contributors to inclusive and sustainable World Heritage governance.

Through thematic sessions, collaborative workshops, group discussions and field visits across the Republic of Korea, participants will explore innovative approaches to safeguarding both natural and cultural heritage. A joint session with the World Heritage Site Managers Forum will further enrich exchanges between emerging and experienced professionals. The programme will run from 13 to 21 July 2026, with arrivals scheduled for 12 July and departures on 21 or 22 July 2026.

Applicants must be between 23 and 32 years old (born between 1994 and 2003 inclusive) and demonstrate active engagement in areas such as education and teaching, World Heritage site management, research and innovation related to heritage, or work within NGOs and community-based organizations focused on World Heritage. They should show strong motivation to contribute to discussions on youth, communities and education, and demonstrate the potential to create impact in their professional and local contexts after the Forum. Proficiency in English is required, as all sessions will be conducted in English.

All expenses related to participation, including international travel in economy class, accommodation, local transportation, meals and visa fees where applicable, will be covered by the organizers. Support will also be provided for travel arrangements and visa processes. Participants who wish to extend their stay beyond the official dates will be responsible for any additional costs and must inform the host country in advance.
