Applications are now being accepted for the 2025/2026 NL Scholarships (formerly known as the Holland Scholarship). This opportunity is designed for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who wish to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the Netherlands. The program is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in partnership with a number of Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences.

Recipients of the NL Scholarship receive a one-time award of €5,000, which is granted during the first year of study. It is important to note that this scholarship covers only part of the total study expenses and is not a full-tuition scholarship.

To be eligible, applicants must hold non-EEA citizenship and apply for a full-time bachelor’s or master’s program at one of the participating institutions. They must also satisfy the specific admission requirements of their chosen university, which can be found on each institution’s official website. Additionally, candidates should not hold a degree from any Dutch educational institution.

The list of participating universities is updated each academic year. For the 2026–2027 intake, several Dutch research universities are expected to take part in the NL Scholarship program, including Eindhoven University of Technology, Maastricht University, Protestant Theological University, Radboud University, Theological University Apeldoorn, University of Groningen, University of Twente, Utrecht Theological University, Utrecht University, VU Amsterdam, and Wageningen University & Research. Applicants are encouraged to visit the respective university websites for details about application deadlines and eligible fields of study.

In addition to the research universities, a range of universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands also participate in the program for the 2026–2027 academic year. These include Aeres University of Applied Sciences, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Amsterdam University of the Arts, ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, Breda University of Applied Sciences, Codarts Rotterdam, Design Academy Eindhoven, Driestar Christian University, Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Gerrit Rietveld Academie, The Hague University of Applied Sciences, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Hotelschool The Hague, HAN University of Applied Sciences, HKU University of Applied Sciences, HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, HZ University of Applied Sciences, NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, Thomas More Hogeschool, University of the Arts The Hague, and Zuyd University of Applied Sciences.
