Applications for the 2026 McCain Institute Global Leaders Program are officially open. To remain responsive to a rapidly evolving and increasingly complex global landscape, the McCain Institute identifies an overarching global theme alongside specific regional focus areas, then selects participants whose work aligns closely with those priorities. Over the course of the year-long program, selected leaders take part in both regional and international activities designed to connect them with a purposeful professional network within their home regions, while also building meaningful relationships with a diverse community of peers from around the world.

The 2026 theme centers on advancing freedom, protecting rights, and expanding opportunity. Those considered for the program are typically mid- to senior-level professionals who demonstrate strong English communication skills and are actively involved in work connected to the program’s themes. They are expected to hold leadership responsibilities, contribute to positive change within their communities, and show a clear commitment to serving a broader purpose. Applicants must have a minimum of five years of professional experience, but there are no restrictions based on age or academic background, and individuals from all countries and sectors are encouraged to apply. Final selection is based on leadership potential, clarity of vision, dedication to service, and fulfillment of the stated criteria.

Participants receive a stipend intended to help with incidental expenses during the program, while all major participation costs such as economy-class travel, accommodation, and visa-related expenses are fully covered by the McCain Institute. Aside from the time and commitment required to actively participate, there are no financial costs involved for those selected.

The program runs for twelve months, beginning in June 2026 and concluding in May 2027, and participants are expected to remain fully engaged throughout the entire period. Applicants who move forward to the second stage of the selection process receive a detailed schedule, while specific travel dates and destinations are not made public in advance. Online sessions are conducted via Zoom, scheduled according to Eastern Standard Time, and most commonly take place at 9:00 AM EST.
