Fully Online : Apply For the YOUNGO Just Transition Academy — 1st Cohort 

The Just Transition Academy is a new program launched by the Just Transition Working Group of YOUNGO, the youth constituency affiliated with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

This global initiative targets young leaders, climate-focused professionals, students, and community organizers who wish to deepen their involvement in equitable, low-carbon development efforts.

Amid accelerating shifts in climate, energy systems, and global societies, the concept of a “just transition” has emerged as a central pillar of climate justice. This academy is designed to strengthen participants’ understanding and advocacy skills so they can help ensure that equity and justice remain at the heart of climate solutions.

As the inaugural global cohort, selected individuals will join a vibrant, international learning environment focused on capacity building, collaboration, and inclusive climate action.


🔹 Key Dates and Format

  • Application deadline: 12 August 2025

  • Results announcement: Week of 18 August 2025

  • Program period: Week of 1 September – Week of 17 October 2025

  • Format: Entirely virtual, including online sessions, group activities, readings, and assignments

🔹 What Participants Will Gain
Over the course of seven weeks, the program will offer a well-rounded learning experience, including:

In-depth exposure to the principles, frameworks, and global relevance of Just Transition

Sector-specific insights on challenges and opportunities in agriculture, energy, and manufacturing

An overview of the UNFCCC’s Just Transition Work Program, key policy discussions, and advocacy priorities ahead of COP30

Peer collaboration, intersectional dialogue, and global networking

Tools and strategies to influence climate policy and participate effectively in international negotiations

Interactive sessions with subject matter experts, policymakers, and youth leaders

A Certificate of Completion, along with potential follow-up opportunities for mentoring, facilitation, or advocacy roles

Integration into a growing international community committed to climate justice and inclusive transitions
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are open to individuals from all countries who meet the following requirements:

Age range: 18 to 35 years

Strong interest or active involvement in climate justice, just transition, sustainability, or community development, with intent to participate in COP30

Commitment of 3–4 hours per week over the program’s duration

Comfortable using English for communication (the program will be conducted exclusively in English)

Access to reliable internet for virtual engagement

Previous experience in climate or social justice work (especially related to the UNFCCC) is considered an asset but is not required. Individuals from underrepresented backgrounds—such as LDCs, SIDS, Indigenous communities, rural areas, LGBTQIA+, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups—are particularly encouraged to apply.
