FUNDED: Apply for the UN FAO Young Forest Champions Initiative 2026 fpr emerging young leaders

Applications have opened for the 2026 edition of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Young Forest Champions Initiative, inviting young people from Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Peru, Uganda, and Zambia to apply. The program is designed to equip emerging leaders with the knowledge, tools, and support needed to advance impactful forest conservation solutions within their countries. By investing in youth leadership, the initiative seeks to strengthen local action that contributes to healthier ecosystems and stronger climate resilience.

Participants will take part in guided mentorship, structured learning experiences, and hands-on capacity building. They will also be introduced to modern technologies, including remote sensing and digital monitoring systems, enabling them to assess forest conditions, track environmental changes, and contribute to sustainable land restoration efforts. After a successful rollout in Kenya, the program is now extending its reach to additional countries, creating new opportunities for young environmental advocates to influence conservation efforts at both community and national levels. Ten outstanding applicants from each participating country will be chosen to become part of a vibrant network committed to shaping the future of forests.

Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of submission and should either be currently enrolled in a university or have recently completed their studies. They must be living in one of the eligible countries and possess at least an intermediate command of English. A stable internet connection is required to actively engage in program activities, and selected participants must be ready to dedicate themselves fully to all activities scheduled throughout 2026.

Those selected as Champions will strengthen their expertise through tailored mentorship, specialized training, and exposure to innovative conservation tools. They will have the opportunity to design and implement initiatives focused on forest restoration and ecosystem protection while becoming part of an international community of young changemakers. The experience will also enhance their leadership profile and open doors to future academic and professional pathways in environmental conservation and climate action.
