FUNDING : Applications are open for the ONSIDE Fund 2024

What is the ONSIDE Fund?

The ONSIDE Fund is a pooled resource that supports feminist movements and initiatives using sports to promote gender justice. It provides unrestricted funding to grassroots groups, organizations, and individuals to help girls, women, and non-binary people claim their right to play, thereby advancing gender justice in sports at all levels, from local to global.

ONSIDE prioritizes participatory and equitable approaches to decision-making, grant-making, and learning, aiming to shift power and share decision-making with girls, women, and non-binary people who are at the forefront of change.

The Fund broadly defines sports to include all types of physical movement and play-based activities, whether competitive or recreational, that foster enjoyment, self-care, collective care, and promote physical and mental well-being.

Vision:
Ensuring that all girls, women*, and non-binary individuals can fully exercise their right to play.

Mission:
To drive a long-lasting feminist movement that reimagines and transforms sports.

What will the ONSIDE Fund support?

The ONSIDE Fund aims to support girls, women, and non-binary individuals from marginalized and oppressed communities who are using sports and play to advance gender justice and bring about social change.

ONSIDE provides unrestricted funding to grassroots groups, collectives, and organizations—whether registered or not—that are led by girls, women*, and/or non-binary people. These groups must be guided by feminist principles and align with the Fund’s vision and mission.

This is a global call for proposals, welcoming applicants from all five regions where the Fund operates. However, priority will be given to those working at the intersection of disability, gender justice, and sports in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. A portion of the funding will be reserved for this focus.

Key priorities include:

- Diversity: The ONSIDE Fund will support a wide range of grassroots groups from different geographies, identities, strategies, focus areas, and types of sports or play-based activities.
- Intersectionality and Feminist Movements: Preference will be given to groups working intersectionally, contributing to feminist movement-building and social change.
- Leadership and Meaningful Representation: The Fund will prioritize groups that are self-led and where girls, women, and/or non-binary people from affected communities play significant leadership and decision-making roles.

*Self-identified.

Please be aware that Phase 1 submissions must be submitted by October 28, 2024, in both English and Spanish. The deadline for Arabic and French applications is November 1, 2024.
