The Mission 300 Fellowship, launched by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), is designed to embed talented young professionals from across Africa into key government institutions — including ministries and high-level offices such as those of the President or Prime Minister. This initiative supports Mission 300, a collaborative effort led by the World Bank Group and African Development Bank, with backing from partners like the Rockefeller Foundation, RF Catalytic Capital, the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), aiming to bring electricity access to 300 million people on the continent by 2030.
Overview of the Program
The Mission 300 Fellowship is modeled after the renowned ODI Fellowship Scheme, which has shown the positive impact of embedding talented professionals within public institutions to enhance long-term institutional performance. This program seeks to assign fellows to Compact Delivery and Monitoring Units (CDMUs), typically located in high-level government offices such as those of the President, Prime Minister, or key ministries like Energy and Finance. Working hand in hand with government officials and Mission 300 partners, fellows will play a key role in helping implement the objectives outlined in the country’s National Energy Compact. Their work will involve crafting customized, practical solutions to address energy challenges and contribute to long-lasting development.
Assignment Details
Each fellowship involves a 24-month placement in a CDMU—a specialized unit created within senior-level government bodies that coordinate across ministries. Fellows will be engaged in a wide range of responsibilities, including facilitating communication and collaboration between governments and key Mission 300 partners such as the World Bank, African Development Bank, the Rockefeller Foundation, RF Catalytic Capital, GEAPP, and SEforALL. These roles are designed to help accelerate the implementation of compact goals and foster impactful energy sector reforms.
