Carnegie Young Leaders for Civic Preparedness is looking for young individuals aged 14 to 24 who are willing to step up, bridge gaps, and address important concerns in their communities. In 2025, 500 young civic leaders from across the country will create 100 teams to spearhead community projects.
Together, you'll learn how to conduct uncomfortable conversations, attempt to understand others, and work productively to create a lasting difference. America's 250th anniversary is quickly approaching. Will you be part of the generation that crafts the next chapter of our nation's strength and unity?
Igniting Nationwide Impact
The Carnegie Young Leaders for Civic Preparedness initiative is backed by a substantial $2,050,000 grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. This program builds on the achievements of a previous pilot, now structured to significantly expand the reach of emerging changemakers across the United States.
THE MISSION:
At a time when the country faces intense polarization, there is a critical need for a new generation prepared to bridge divides and address the pressing challenges facing their communities.
THE FELLOWS:
This initiative will bring together 500 motivated young leaders, aged 14 to 24, from diverse backgrounds, equipping them to launch meaningful community projects.
THE OUTCOME:
Participants will develop the skills to engage in complex conversations, foster mutual understanding, and collaborate effectively to drive positive change in their communities.

Receive ongoing coaching and mentoring from experienced peers and community mentors.
Spend a year immersed in a hands-on community of practice, developing real-world initiatives that have an impact.

Learn how to identify and address community needs effectively while building your civic knowledge, skills and dispositions
Collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
Become part of the prestigious Citizens & Scholars network, unlocking future opportunities to lead as a coach or mentor
Award
Team leaders will receive a $2.5K stipend, while team members will receive a $1,000 stipend.
Up to $1,000 in reimbursement cash to support project development and implementation.
Stipends for team leaders and team members are predicated on active participation in in-person meetings (just for team leads), community of practice meetings (for the entire team) and coaching sessions.
In your project proposal, address a community need by presenting a vision for change and solutions for making it happen.
Commit 5-7 hours per month (7-10 hours for Team Leaders) to your project from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026.
Attend 5 bimonthly Community of Practice sessions (September, November, January, March and May) on Thursday evenings EST.
Have access to technology for communication and autonomous work. Attend meetings with your camera on.
As a team leader, you must:
