FUNDING :With a grant of at least £10,000 for project implementation , Apply for the EDGE Fellowship 2025-2027 ( With a fully funded trip to the UK )

For the purpose of advancing their careers and leading successful conservation efforts for the most exceptional and rare species on Earth, early-career conservationists from lower- and middle-income countries can apply for the 28-month EDGE Fellowship.

In order to ensure the survival of EDGE species, EDGE works to diversify, enhance, and support conservation leadership. A comprehensive programme of assistance and chances for professional development is included with each fellowship, and it includes:

Ongoing coaching and training possibilities with ZSL and the partners, as well as access to mentorship: comprehensive mentoring programme with access to exclusive coaching and training opportunities with ZSL and its partners.
Six weeks of in-person instruction: a two-week advanced course on conservation impact in the UK and a four-week course on conservation tools in the target region, along with access to further online training;

Project Categories

The following categories should either or both apply to your proposed project:
- Planning for conservation and doing applied research
a brand-new scientific study that closes a knowledge gap and advances the preservation of an endangered species. The creation (and possible publication) of a scientific study, such as an update on the population, distribution, and extinction risk of the species, or an analysis of the social and political context, or work that advances knowledge of the local ecological knowledge and human interactions with the species, will be the primary output.

  • recommendations for conservation action planning were developed after consulting with stakeholders. These suggestions will guide the creation of the "EDGE Survival Blueprint," which is the primary result of all EDGE Fellowships and a species conservation plan.
  • Putting suggested conservation measures into practice
the application of conservation measures to lessen risks to the species and enhance the species' and its habitat's conservation status. The conservation interventions should have been recommended by a suitable participatory planning procedure. The primary result would be a report detailing the project's development.

Project Qualifications

The initiative has to concentrate on species that are on the selected EDGE list for 2024.
EDGE species that have not had much research or are currently receiving little to no attention for conservation are given priority.
Projects should fall under one of the following categories: conservation planning and applied research; conservation action implementation.
There must be a social and ecological component to EDGE fellowships. They therefore search for both in a well-executed application.

Don't miss out on the application deadline which is 7th July 2024.

Eligibility Criteria
Early-career conservationists with fewer than ten years of paid experience are the target audience for fellowships. Although there are no formal requirements, candidates having at least an undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent experience will be given consideration.
Only citizens or permanent residents of the nations specified as being within the target range of the species in the curated list may apply. Regretfully, you will not be able to apply if your nation is not on this list. It seems improbable that projects in the EU, New Zealand, Australia, South Korea, and all of the G10 nations will be taken into consideration. On the other hand, should you reside in one of these nations and believe you can support your desire for training.

- Applicants should be nationals and/or residents of the country where the proposed focal species occurs. If you live in the country where your project will take place but are not a national, you must demonstrate that you will remain there and have a long-term commitment to conservation in that country.
They do not usually accept applications from nationals of higher-income countries temporarily residing in an eligible country. If this applies to you and you believe you can make a case for support.

- People need to be able to converse in English. If the candidate is not a native English speaker, they must show that their proficiency in the language meets the minimal requirements (IELTS score of 7.0, TOEFL score of 600, internet-based TOEFL score of 100, or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English grade C, or equivalent). Alternatively, they can request feedback on their English proficiency from two references. Every interview is conducted in English.
EDGE Fellowships are given out for two years and cannot be transferred.

- An in-country supervisor, such as a senior colleague, associate, or project supervisor from a university, must offer support to the application. The in-country supervisor needs to promise to help you for the full two-year period.
The ability to utilise Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as computer literacy are prerequisites.
