The Fellowship provides support to the selected candidate to conduct project-based research in a specified area aimed at strengthening their expertise in teaching Australian Literature, English, and literacy to students in Australia. The research may be carried out either within Australia or internationally, but it must ultimately benefit Australian educators, teacher librarians, and students.

Upon completion of the project, the Fellow is required to submit a report of up to 5,000 words and share their findings at educational conferences and with fellow educators. Starting in 2025, Fellows may allocate up to $1,000 from their grant funds to cover relief expenses while completing their report or presenting their work.
