Program Benefits
Successful applicants will receive financial support to implement projects in two priority areas: commercial forestry and agroforestry. In commercial forestry, projects are expected to focus on strengthening sustainable practices across public, private, and community lands to enhance carbon sequestration, improve land use, and create climate-resilient economic opportunities. In agroforestry, the emphasis is on scaling up sustainable practices among smallholder farmers, restoring degraded landscapes, and building value chains that improve livelihoods and conserve biodiversity. Beyond funding, projects will contribute to Kenya’s efforts to accelerate its just transition, build institutional and community capacity, foster innovation, and strengthen resilience to climate impacts.
Eligibility Criteria
This opportunity is open to organisations with proven experience in providing technical assistance, capacity building, or policy support in areas related to climate change, natural resource management, and sustainable land use. Eligible applicants include think tanks, consultancies, non-governmental organisations, academic institutions, community-based organisations, and professional associations. Proposals can be submitted by individual organisations or consortia; however, government departments, state-owned enterprises, and government agencies are not eligible to apply as lead applicants or partners. Special emphasis will be given to proposals that demonstrate strong partnerships with local organisations, including those led by women, youth, or persons with disabilities, as this reflects the programme’s commitment to inclusivity and equitable participation.
