Hybrid Job Opportunity : UN Global Compact Network is looking for a Lead, Environment and Climate Sustainability officer
As the demand for climate and environmental-focused initiatives increases among Network companies, the organization is seeking a proactive, skilled, and efficient team member to support the execution of Environment and Climate Change programs.
The selected candidate will collaborate with senior leadership to coordinate, design, and implement environmental and climate-related projects, encouraging corporate Network Participants to take meaningful climate action.
WORK LOCATION: Toronto or GTA | Hybrid 2 days in the office
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the execution of environmental and climate initiatives, inspiring Network Participants to engage in bold corporate actions while aligning with the priorities of UN Global Compact Network Canada in the climate and environmental sectors. This includes organizing roundtables, webinars, training workshops, working groups, and conferences.
- Collaborate closely with the Global Compact Office to manage and support the implementation of the UN Global Compact’s Climate Ambition Accelerator and Climate Peer Learning programs.
- Serve as a technical advisor for a federally-funded project focused on corporate climate adaptation efforts.
- Foster relationships with Network members, civil society, the United Nations, and other stakeholders on key environmental and climate issues.
- Stay informed on the latest climate change trends, environmental policies, and business practices, including emerging regulations and reporting standards.
- Conduct research and generate reports, summaries, and analysis related to the environment and climate initiatives.
- Work with senior management to develop proposals for grants and funding opportunities that support the Canadian private sector in adhering to the environmental principles of the UN Global Compact and related Sustainable Development Goals.
- Represent UN Global Compact Network Canada in local and global conferences related to environmental and climate action.
- Partner with the marketing team to create compelling online content that promotes programs and raises awareness about UN Global Compact Network Canada’s initiatives.
- Assist with various other tasks as required.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- Strong passion and knowledge in environmental sustainability and addressing climate change.
- In-depth understanding of environmental issues such as natural resource management, biodiversity, climate change, and the responsible business practices that support these areas.
- Enthusiastic about driving corporate action on climate change and promoting sustainable environmental practices.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and persuade others effectively.
- Experienced in facilitation and/or adult education.
- Skilled in public speaking, moderating, panel discussions, and facilitating conversations on relevant topics.
- Strong written communication abilities, particularly in crafting messages that engage businesses.
- Exceptional project management skills:
- Experience with goal-setting, prioritizing, and adjusting plans when necessary.
- Ability to foresee potential risks and plan accordingly, adjusting as needed.
- Ability to work effectively in diverse teams across multiple regions:
- Collaboration with colleagues from different teams to achieve organizational objectives.
- Open to others' ideas and feedback, demonstrating a willingness to learn from others.

Salary remuneration: $60,000 - 65,000 annually

Eligibility Criteria
an environmental, sustainable development, or sustainability management bachelor's degree, or its equivalent. A master's degree is ideal.
four or more years of experience working on environmental sustainability projects.
It is preferred if you have prior experience working on business sustainability programs.
previous experience in project management.
It is encouraged if you have technical knowledge of climate adaptation, especially nature-based solutions and biodiversity in mining, agriculture, and engineering.
Full command of the English language, both in writing and speaking, is required; fluency in French would be advantageous.
