Interns at Mak-CAD will have the opportunity to work on groundbreaking projects funded by renowned partners like IDRC Canada and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

Your Role as a Mak-CAD Intern (June – July 2025)

As an intern, you’ll join one of the center’s key research teams, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful projects.

Focus Areas & Potential Projects:

1. Software Development for AI:

   • Develop and implement software for AI applications in fields like healthcare, agriculture, and more.

   • Assist in building and refining AI-ready datasets tailored to African contexts.

   • Work on back-end systems and APIs for integrating AI models.

   • Collaborate in agile software development environments.

2. Computer Vision:

   • Support the creation, training, and evaluation of computer vision models for applications like medical diagnostics or smart agriculture.

   • Handle image and video data, including tasks like annotation, pre-processing, and augmentation.

   • Explore cutting-edge deep learning techniques for visual data analysis.

3. Natural Language Processing (NLP):

   • Contribute to projects focused on African languages, including data collection and model development for tasks like translation or speech recognition.

   • Work on NLP applications like sentiment analysis, text summarization, and information extraction.

   • Experiment with low-resource NLP methods and culturally relevant AI solutions.
