The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is seeking a Fisheries and Aquaculture Officer (P-4) to join its Subregional Office for the Pacific Islands in Apia, Samoa. This professional-level appointment offers a two-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension, and provides an opportunity to contribute to sustainable fisheries management and climate-smart aquaculture development across the Pacific region.

The selected specialist will support the implementation of FAO’s Strategic Framework and Blue Transformation Roadmap, advancing resilient and inclusive agrifood systems that strengthen food security, livelihoods and economic growth in island nations. The role includes leading the fisheries and aquaculture portfolio within the subregional office, designing and delivering regional programmes, and providing governments with technical guidance on policy development, governance systems, and institutional strengthening.

Key responsibilities involve supporting data-driven decision-making through analytical tools and monitoring frameworks, contributing to capacity-building initiatives, and collaborating with public institutions, regional organizations, research bodies and development partners. The Officer will also represent FAO in regional and international forums and assist in mobilizing partnerships and resources aligned with sustainable ocean and aquaculture priorities.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants should hold an advanced university degree in fisheries economics, marine affairs, fisheries management, aquaculture development or a related discipline. A minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in sustainable fisheries or aquaculture management, governance, data systems or related areas is required. Proficiency in English is essential, along with working knowledge of another FAO official language.

- Experience working in developing countries, particularly in field-based contexts, as well as strong coordination and communication skills, will be advantageous.
