The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an inter-governmental organization tasked with promoting the widespread and sustainable use of renewable energy in all its forms. IRENA assists countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future and serves as a leading platform for international collaboration, knowledge sharing, and policy development related to renewable energy. The agency works toward sustainable development, enhanced energy security, and fostering low-carbon economic growth. Currently, IRENA provides support to 169 Members, which include 168 States and the European Union, as they work towards a sustainable energy future. Additionally, 15 more States are in the process of joining.

**Chief Communications Officer**

Under the guidance of the Deputy Director-General, the Chief Communications Officer:

- Develops and executes integrated communication strategies for disseminating IRENA's international work.
- Oversees the creation of materials and digital assets, including news releases, opinion pieces, social media campaigns, infographics, presentations, and web content.
- Engages with journalists worldwide to promote IRENA's work and activities, building proactive relationships.
- Collaborates with Program Directors to provide communication support to IRENA's partners.
- Represents the agency at meetings with journalists, partner organizations, international bodies, conferences, and relevant gatherings.
- Supervises a team of communications and digital specialists, devising and implementing the communication strategy.
- Establishes and maintains strong relations with press, media, and stakeholders.
- Plans and executes innovative communication and information campaigns, utilizing various social networking and information tools.
- Defines target audiences for IRENA's communication efforts.
- Establishes IRENA's communication infrastructure, including mailing lists, media contacts, and renewable energy event calendars.
- Writes and reviews texts such as articles, editorials, speeches, and press releases for IRENA leadership and staff.
- Develops and publishes outreach and informational materials in cooperation with IRENA staff.
- Manages IRENA's communication budget in accordance with internal procedures.
- Identifies and collaborates with communication agencies when necessary.
- Oversees the IRENA website in conjunction with the web administrator.
- Ensures consistency and coherence in all IRENA communications while adhering to editorial policies and brand identity.
- Supervises and manages staff.

**Competencies**

- Professionalism: Requires specialized media knowledge, understanding of public information and communication, and an ability to navigate the press and media landscape. Proficiency in renewable energy topics is advantageous.
- Technological Awareness: Familiarity with various technical and software tools, including social media platforms.
- Leadership: Ability to lead and manage a diverse communications team, set goals, and work under pressure.
- Teamwork: Demonstrated team spirit and the ability to work with counterparts across the organization.
- Accountability: Commitment to fulfilling responsibilities in line with operational objectives and organizational rules.
- Creativity: Ability to develop creative strategies for effectively communicating with different audiences.
- Client Orientation: Skill in maintaining strong relations with the global media, IRENA member states, and stakeholders.

**Requirements**

- Education: Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for a higher degree.
- Experience: A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, communications, or public relations, with at least two years in an international context. Supervisory experience is necessary, and prior knowledge in the energy/renewable energy field is desirable.
- Language: Excellent command of written and spoken English is essential, with fluency in French and/or Arabic considered desirable.
