Job Opportunity : Apply to a Climate Change Trainee at GIZ Uganda – Energy & Climate Cluster

If so, the Global Carbon Markets (GCM) Project in Uganda, implemented by GIZ, offers an exciting opportunity for young professionals to gain hands-on experience in the field of climate change and sustainable development.

Position Title:

Climate Change Trainee

Duty Station:

Kampala, Uganda

Reporting To:

Project Manager, GIZ Uganda Energy & Climate Cluster

Key Responsibilities:

As a Climate Change Trainee, you will have the chance to develop skills in a variety of areas related to energy and climate change, including:

  1. Research and Analysis
    • Research international and regional carbon markets.
    • Analyze policy frameworks and market trends in Uganda and Eastern Africa.
    • Prepare briefing notes, technical reports, and policy summaries.
  2. Project Support
    • Assist in planning and organizing workshops, training sessions, and meetings, including those for the Eastern Africa Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance.
    • Draft presentations, reports, and communication materials.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Engage with government agencies, private sector actors, NGOs, and international organizations involved in climate change and carbon markets.
  4. Data Collection and Management
    • Collect and organize data related to carbon markets and climate change to support project outcomes.
  5. Administrative Tasks
    • Provide logistical and coordination support during consultations and events.

Eligibility Criteria
Required Qualifications & Competencies:
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Forestry, Economics, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management, or a related field. (Note: The candidate should have completed their degree no earlier than February 2023.)
Experience: Previous internships, volunteering, or coursework in climate change, carbon markets, or sustainable development is desirable.
Skills & Knowledge:
Familiarity with international climate policies, especially the Paris Agreement and Article 6 mechanisms.
Strong research and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams).
A self-motivated, proactive attitude, with the ability to manage time effectively.
A strong commitment to addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development.
