The position is offered within the World Climate Research Programme, with the new International Project Office jointly hosted by the European Space Agency and the University of Cape Town.

About the Role

The Programme Manager will contribute to advancing the Coordinated Regional Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) — a flagship international initiative improving regional climate projections and strengthening climate information for adaptation planning worldwide.

The role focuses on coordinating scientific collaboration between climate observation and modelling communities while ensuring effective programme operations.

Duty Station

• Harwell Campus, Didcot, United Kingdom
• Hosted at ESA’s European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications (ECSAT)
• Flexible home-working arrangements available within the UK

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

• Coordinate planning, implementation, and daily operations of CORDEX activities
• Support international climate research collaboration and governance processes
• Organize global scientific meetings, workshops, and partner engagements
• Facilitate cooperation between climate modelling and observation communities
• Contribute to experimental design, data coordination, and dissemination activities
• Oversee programme finance management and reporting
• Support strategic partnerships with international climate initiatives
• Prepare reports, publications, and communication materials

Desirable experience includes:

• Regional climate modelling or downscaling research
• Scientific coordination between modelling and observational communities
• Strategic implementation of digital or AI-enabled programme systems
• Contract management and procurement experience
