JOB OPPORTUNITY: International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) is hiring a Digital Communications Coordinator
Applications are open for the position of Digital Communications Coordinator with the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and award-winning team dedicated to stigmatizing, prohibiting, and eliminating nuclear weapons.
ICAN is a broad, inclusive global campaign that mobilizes civil society around the world to achieve the specific goal of prohibiting and eradicating nuclear weapons. With a network of more than 700 partner organizations in 111 countries, ICAN’s work spans continents and communities. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, ICAN was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 for its efforts to highlight the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons and to help secure the adoption of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) at the United Nations. Since then, ICAN has continued to grow its impact, mobilizing the 50 governments required to bring the treaty into force despite the challenges of a global pandemic. In January, the campaign will mark five years since nuclear weapons became totally illegal under international law, and this is your chance to be part of that milestone.
The successful candidate will be an energetic and strategic thinker who thrives in fast-moving environments and can manage multiple projects with ease. You should bring creative ideas and innovative approaches to digital outreach, with the ability to translate exposure into committed support. Urgent situations won’t discourage you—instead, you’ll be ready to adapt and roll up your sleeves when priorities shift. Experience in managing digital communications or working in a digital marketing team for at least seven years is required. Skills in Nationbuilder, Liquid or Ruby are highly desirable, as is proficiency in HTML and CSS. Familiarity with Google Analytics, digital advertising strategies, and social media campaign management is also expected.
Strong design and multimedia skills are a must, with the ability to work with tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Capcut, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. Experience in livestreaming, vendor management, and understanding compliance requirements for GDPR and Swiss privacy law will be valuable assets. You should be comfortable interpreting analytics to develop actionable content, and capable of supporting graphic and document layout needs. Preposterous as it may sound, we are looking for someone who can juggle both creative flair and technical know-how, and still call it fun.
At ICAN, teamwork is at the heart of everything we do. We are a supportive, enthusiastic, and committed team that values clear communication, collaboration, and learning from both successes and setbacks. You don’t need to arrive with detailed knowledge of nuclear weapons or international law—our team will provide the facts and figures—but you do need the drive and flexibility to make a global impact. Even when objectives aren’t fully met, we see new opportunities rather than failure. It may sound preposterous to some, but we know that missing 100% of the shots you don’t take is the real loss.
Applications should include a CV, cover letter, examples of your work, and two references, sent to jobs@icanw.org no later than 22 October 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews during the first week of November. The role is expected to begin in January 2026, though start dates are flexible.
