Applications are now open for experienced professionals to join the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the WHO Regional Office for Europe. This newly established board will play a critical role in guiding evidence-based decision-making and strengthening scientific governance across the region.
The initiative is part of WHO/Europe’s broader vision under its 2026–2030 programme to enhance technical excellence, innovation, and responsiveness to emerging health challenges.
Location: Global (meetings held virtually and in-person as required)
About the Role
The Scientific Advisory Board will serve as a high-level expert group advising WHO/Europe on scientific and methodological issues. Members will contribute to shaping how evidence is generated, assessed, and translated into practical health policies for 53 Member States.
This role offers a unique opportunity to influence regional and global health strategies during a time of rapid transformation driven by new technologies and complex health challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Selected experts will support WHO/Europe by:

Providing guidance on scientific methodologies and evidence standards

Identifying knowledge gaps and emerging risks in health systems
-
Translating complex research into actionable policy recommendations
-
Advising on the use of AI and digital tools in health research

Supporting the development of clear, user-friendly evidence outputs
-
Responding to technical and scientific queries as needed
Commitment & Structure

Members will meet 2–3 times per year, with additional sessions as needed

Meetings may be held virtually or in-person (e.g., Copenhagen or other locations)

The working language of the board is English
