PAID FELLOWSHIP: Apply for the Tech Policy Press 2026 Fellowship for journalists, storytellers and changemakers worldwide

Applications are open for the 2026 fellowship program at Tech Policy Press, offering a fully funded opportunity for journalists, researchers, lawyers, and public policy professionals to investigate critical questions at the intersection of technology and democracy. The fellowship provides a platform for independent reporting and analysis, allowing fellows to produce work that informs both the public and decision-makers on urgent, underexplored issues.

Since its inception in 2023, the program has supported 15 fellows from seven countries across two cohorts. These participants have explored topics ranging from artificial intelligence governance and technology regulation to digital rights and the relationship between state and corporate power. Through the fellowship, fellows have been able to amplify their insights and contribute meaningfully to global conversations about tech policy.

For 2026, Tech Policy Press seeks a new cohort to work remotely on year-long, part-time projects. Fellows are expected to have a clear focus area and a plan for producing work that highlights underrepresented communities and regions often excluded from global tech policy discussions. Applicants can propose a range of contributions, from original reporting and investigative journalism to policy analyses or multimedia content.

Selected fellows will receive a $10,000 stipend to support their work and will benefit from editorial guidance, regular cohort meetings, and monthly sessions designed to strengthen their projects. They will also become part of an international network of fellows, providing opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and feedback throughout the year. Fellows are required to submit work at least monthly, participate in scheduled check-ins, meet all deadlines, and disclose any potential conflicts of interest.

The fellowship is open to candidates worldwide, with a particular invitation to applicants from the Global Majority and underrepresented communities in media. Applicants should demonstrate interest or experience in technology, policy, or media, and a commitment to producing high-quality, public-interest work.

The program will begin in January 2026 and run for twelve months. Notification of acceptance is expected by early December 2025. Fellows’ work will be showcased through the Tech Policy Press website, newsletter, podcast, and special events to ensure broad visibility. Stipends will be distributed quarterly, supporting fellows in fully dedicating themselves to their projects throughout the year.
