PAID FELLOWSHIP: Apply for this Paid Virtual Reporting Fellowship to report on UNCBD COP16 in Colombia and UNFCCC COP29 in Baku
Internews' Earth Journalism Network is launching two virtual fellowship programs to support journalists in covering the upcoming UN conferences on climate change and biodiversity. These remote reporting fellowships will equip selected journalists with the skills and knowledge to effectively cover the COP29 climate summit and the COP16 biodiversity conference.
For the COP16 fellowship, eight journalists from Africa and Latin America will be chosen to receive training, mentorship, and support to enhance their reporting on biodiversity issues. Similarly, 10 journalists from South Asia and Europe/Eurasia will be selected for the COP29 fellowship to cover the climate negotiations remotely.
To facilitate seamless participation in the virtual activities, each fellow will receive a communication allowance of $100.
Applications for these fellowships are open until August 15, offering a unique opportunity for journalists to enhance their expertise in environmental reporting.

To be considered for the CBD Virtual Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a professional journalist or representative of an established media outlet from Africa or Latin America (specific countries listed below)
- Commit to participating in all virtual activities (up to 20 hours) including training sessions, mentorship, and daily briefings
- Spend 4-6 hours crafting each story from the conference
- Have reliable internet access (1.0-1.5 mbps) and complete an internet speed test
- Demonstrate proficiency in English
- Show previous experience reporting on biodiversity and environmental issues
- Submit an up-to-date resume/CV and letter of support from an editor or supervisor
- Provide recent work samples on biodiversity topics (published in the last 12 months) with a short English synopsis
*CCMP Virtual Fellowship:*
To be eligible for the CCMP Virtual Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a professional journalist or representative of an established media outlet from South Asia or Europe and Eurasia (specific countries listed below)
- Commit to participating in all virtual activities (up to 20 hours) including training sessions, mentorship, and daily briefings
- Spend 4-6 hours crafting each story from the conference
- Have reliable internet access (1.0-1.5 mbps) and complete an internet speed test
- Demonstrate proficiency in English
- Show previous experience reporting on climate change and environmental issues
- Submit an up-to-date resume/CV and letter of support from an editor or supervisor
- Provide recent work samples on climate change topics (published in the last 12 months) with a short English synopsis
