Applications are open for young professionals across Africa who are eager to grow or expand their community-driven projects in agroecology, organic agriculture, or sustainable food systems. This is a unique chance to turn your vision into impact by joining the Building Women & Youth-led Network Alliances for Agroecology and Organic Agriculture (BWYNAAO) Programme as one of six Community Solutions Interns or Fellows.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between YPARD (Young Professionals for Agricultural Development), PELUM Kenya (Participatory Ecological Land Use Management), the African Green Store Network (AGSN), and the Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture and Agroecology (KCOA), with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Its mission is to empower youth and women across the continent to become leaders in sustainable agri-food systems, while fostering entrepreneurship, knowledge sharing, and strong community networks.

Applications close on 30th August 2025, and the programme will run from September 2025 until June 2026. Selected participants will commit around 16–20 hours each month, during which they will develop or scale initiatives designed to meet the specific needs of their communities. These projects might range from sustainable farming practices to agribusiness ventures that strengthen resilience and food security. Previous examples from across Africa include mushroom cultivation projects led by young women in Benin, organic fertiliser production initiatives in Tanzania, smallholder farm networks in Eswatini, and fish farming enterprises in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Successful applicants will benefit from practical mentorship and technical guidance provided by programme partners, alongside access to KCOA’s extensive resources. They will also receive a stipend of 200 EUR per month, up to 1,000 EUR in direct financial support for their community project, and fully funded travel to attend one of the programme’s events in Africa. Beyond the financial and technical support, participants will gain invaluable opportunities to expand their networks and collaborate with like-minded innovators across the continent.

The call is open to Africans between the ages of 18 and 35 who are either pursuing relevant studies or have already graduated and are seeking to build careers in agroecology and sustainable farming. Applicants should demonstrate motivation and commitment to agroecology or organic agriculture, with or without prior experience. Proficiency in English or French is required, and participants must have access to reliable internet and basic digital tools to engage fully in the programme. The programme especially welcomes applications from women, Indigenous youth, rural communities, people with disabilities, and others who face systemic barriers.
