The selected intern will support the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Global Programme on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE), a priority initiative under the UN Secretary-General’s global counter-terrorism strategy.
About the Opportunity
The intern will work under the UNOPS Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio within the Sustainable Development Cluster. The role focuses on research, policy support, programme documentation, and reporting to strengthen global strategies against violent extremism while promoting human rights and sustainable development.
The position is based in New York, USA, and runs until 31 December 2026.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct research and analysis on issues related to preventing and countering violent extremism

Support preparation of reports, briefing notes, policy documents, and communication materials

Participate in meetings and draft summaries and technical reports

Monitor global trends related to extremism, youth engagement, climate security, artificial intelligence, and mental health

Organize and manage programme information and databases

Assist in workshops, training sessions, and international events

Perform additional programme support tasks as required
