The Global Environment Facility is seeking interns to assist with managing social media, creating engaging content, and strengthening its digital presence.
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is a multilateral funding organization focused on addressing biodiversity loss, climate change, pollution, and promoting the health of land and oceans. Its financial support helps developing countries tackle complex environmental challenges and pursue global environmental objectives.
The GEF partnership consists of 186 member governments, along with civil society, Indigenous Peoples, women, and youth, emphasizing integration and inclusivity. Over the past 30 years, the GEF has allocated more than $26 billion in funding and mobilized $149 billion for country-driven priority projects.
The GEF’s family of funds includes the Global Environment Facility Trust Fund, Global Biodiversity Framework Fund (GBFF), Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF), Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF), Nagoya Protocol Implementation Fund (NPIF), and the Capacity-building Initiative for Transparency Trust Fund (CBIT).
The GEF Internship Program provides individuals with the chance to gain knowledge about the GEF and contribute to its global environmental mission. Interns will be paired with a team and a staff mentor throughout their internship.
Your Responsibilities:
Support the management of the GEF’s social media profiles
Create, organize, and plan content schedules
Design graphics and videos for social media platforms
Track social media performance and assist with digital marketing campaigns
Contribute to the creation of newsletters, media summaries, and content performance reports
Applicants should show passion for addressing global environmental issues in a multicultural setting, as well as strong skills in interpersonal communication, research, and writing.
Duration
Internships last between three to six months, and may be full-time or part-time, depending on the assignment. Internships are generally in-person at the GEF offices in Washington, DC, in accordance with the GEF and World Bank’s return-to-work policies. Remote work arrangements will be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to those policies.
Additional Information
J1 visa holders must obtain a G4 visa abroad before starting their internship at the GEF. The World Bank staff rules apply.

Additional Information
Interns will receive a stipend of $3,000 per month, or may have the option to secure external funding. Interns are responsible for arranging their own accommodation, travel, and medical insurance.
