PAID TRAINEESHIPS: Apply for the EU Delegation to Kenya‘s funded traineeships for young graduates
Applications are now open for a six-month funded traineeship with the European Union Delegation to Kenya, beginning in July 2026. This opportunity is designed for recent university graduates who are passionate about international relations and eager to gain first-hand experience within a diplomatic mission. Successful applicants will have the chance to understand how the European Union advances its interests, partnerships, and values in Kenya and across the region.
The Delegation is offering placements within two areas. The first is the Political, Press and Information Section, where selected trainees will contribute to political analysis, reporting, and media engagement. They will monitor developments in Kenya’s political landscape, assist with drafting reports, support communication efforts including website and social media updates, help prepare information materials, conduct press reviews, and participate in meeting preparations and minute-taking. The role provides valuable exposure to diplomacy, communications, and public affairs in an international setting.
The second opportunity is within the Head of Delegation and Trade Sections. Trainees in this area will support coordination across different sectors of the Delegation’s work, including political affairs, economic matters, development cooperation, and security. They will analyse Kenya’s foreign relations, track regional peace and security developments, follow trade and investment trends, and contribute to reporting on the implementation of the EU–Kenya Partnership Agreement and other trade frameworks. The role also involves attending meetings, drafting brief reports, and assisting in engagement with EU Member States and private sector stakeholders.
Applicants should hold a university degree and demonstrate a strong interest in international relations, political science, security studies, trade, journalism, media, or related disciplines, particularly with a focus on African affairs. They should possess excellent research, analytical, and drafting abilities, work well in a team, and communicate effectively in English. Familiarity with EU external action priorities, especially in relation to Africa, will be considered an added advantage.
Interested candidates are required to submit a Europass CV, a motivation letter explaining their interest in the traineeship, and the official application form via email to delegation-kenya-recruitment@eeas.europa.eu. Only one traineeship per delegation may be selected when applying, and the chosen section must be clearly indicated in the subject line of the email. Applications close on 13 March 2026.
Selected trainees will receive a monthly stipend to support living expenses. However, they will be responsible for covering travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation costs. The traineeship is subject to eligibility requirements and compliance with both Kenyan regulations and the legislation of the trainee’s country of origin. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews, and final selection will depend on the submission of all required documentation.
