The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) is inviting applications for the role of Regional Focal Point (RFP) for Africa within its global youth program. Since its launch in 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General, SDSN has worked to connect scientific expertise and practical solutions that advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and support climate action under the Paris Agreement.

About SDSN Youth

Established in 2015, SDSN Youth brings together young leaders who are committed to shaping sustainable solutions within their communities. Working alongside the wider SDSN Networks, the youth program supports capacity-building, outreach, and advocacy initiatives that help localize the SDGs. Its national and regional networks develop context-specific actions by strengthening youth skills, building partnerships, and driving innovation across different countries.

About the Youth Networks Program

Through a large and diverse membership of youth-led institutions, the Networks Program encourages collaboration between young changemakers and provides the structure needed to turn ideas into real impact. The Regional Focal Point plays a central role in coordinating the efforts of National Coordinators (NCs), promoting regional partnerships, and ensuring that activities align with global SDSN Youth objectives.

Role Overview

The Regional Focal Point for Africa supports NCs across the continent and ensures that youth initiatives respond to the SDGs and regional priorities. The RFP also reports regularly to the Global Networks Management team and helps build momentum for youth-led development efforts. As the network operates across multiple time zones, consistent communication and proactive engagement are essential. The selected candidate is expected to begin the assignment in January 2026.

Key Responsibilities

The Regional Focal Point will:

• Serve as the connector between national/regional networks and SDSN Youth.

• Offer guidance to NCs on project management, communication tools, and other operational needs.

• Strengthen youth participation and help maintain consistent engagement across networks.

• Track, document, and report on activities and projects taking place within youth networks.

• Share updates about SDSN Youth with relevant stakeholders and partner groups.

• Host regular meetings with NCs, and participate in scheduled calls with global teams.

• Maintain timely communication with the Networks Team and respond promptly to emails.

• Submit work plans, progress updates, and evaluations as required.

• Help identify new opportunities and regional collaborations.

• Support recruitment of additional NCs when necessary.

Terms and Conditions

• Duration: 12 months, including a 3-month introductory period; continuation depends on performance.

• Reporting: To the Global Networks Project Lead and Project Officers.

• Training: All selected candidates must complete SDSN Youth’s induction and training courses.

Commitment

The role requires a weekly commitment of at least 10 hours, with the possibility of extending the mandate upon review.
