Applications are open for the World Food Prize Foundation Internships – Fall 2026 talented undergraduate and graduate students interested in gaining practical experience while contributing to efforts addressing global food insecurity, sustainable agriculture and international development.

The internship programme gives students the opportunity to take on meaningful responsibilities and contribute to a range of projects carried out by the Foundation. Interns work alongside staff, develop professional skills and gain exposure to initiatives focused on food security, agriculture, youth engagement, innovation and global development.

Available Internship Areas

Global Programs and Strategic Engagements

Interns in this area support major programmes and events that bring together experts, innovators, policymakers, students and other stakeholders working to address global food challenges.

Activities may include researching emerging issues, engaging stakeholders, supporting event logistics and contributing to agricultural technology and innovation programmes.

Interns may contribute to initiatives such as the Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue, Iowa Hunger Summit, Top Agri-food Pioneers and the Innovate for Impact Challenge.

Youth Programs

Youth Programs interns support initiatives designed to inspire and develop the next generation of leaders in food security, agriculture and science.

Responsibilities may involve education programming, student engagement, outreach, communications and event coordination. Interns contribute to programmes such as the State Youth Institutes and Global Youth Institute, helping young people explore opportunities and challenges within the global food system.

The specific responsibilities depend on the team and programme to which an intern is assigned.

Internship Location and Schedule

Interns work on-site in Des Moines, Iowa, USA.

During the academic year, interns are expected to commit at least 12–15 hours per week, generally between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

During the summer, the expected commitment increases to 16–20 hours per week. The programme provides flexibility to accommodate individual academic schedules.

Compensation and Academic Credit

The internship is voluntary and unpaid, although a parking stipend is provided.

Students may also arrange to receive academic credit through their college or university, subject to their institution's requirements.

Interns are responsible for their own travel and relocation expenses to Des Moines, Iowa.
