About the Webinar

With climate change intensifying, biodiversity declining, and freshwater scarcity becoming more severe, the global sustainability agenda faces mounting pressure. Progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) remains slow, making transformative approaches in key sectors—such as water—more urgent than ever.

This session will introduce the concept of absolute sustainability, grounded in the planetary boundaries framework. Participants will explore how these principles apply directly to water systems and utilities, supported by practical examples of real-world implementation.

A key focus will be placed on the role of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in advancing sustainability strategies and aligning water operations within ecological limits.

A second session in the series will examine how strategic sustainability planning and reporting mechanisms can translate high-level commitments into measurable, on-the-ground results.

The webinar series will culminate in a dedicated in-person workshop planned in Glasgow in 2026, alongside the development of a best-practice compendium for the sector.
