FULLY FUNDED TO COP29: Apply for the AYFICE COP29 Youth Delegate program for Australian youth

The Australian Youth for International Climate Engagement (AYFICE) is excited to announce the launch of its COP29 Youth Delegate Program. This initiative will offer financial support and guidance to two young Australians, enabling them to participate as youth delegates at the UNFCCC COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan (November 11-22, 2024).

AYFICE is a youth-driven organization that strives to increase the presence of young Australians in global climate negotiations. The group is dedicated to uplifting marginalized voices, including those from First Nations, Pasifika youth, frontline communities, and other underrepresented groups, ensuring their perspectives are included in the conversation. AYFICE encourages applicants from all backgrounds to apply.

To qualify for the program, applicants must:
- Hold Australian citizenship and be between 18 and 30 years old
- Be passionate about addressing climate change (relevant experience in the field is a plus but not required)
- Possess a passport with at least six months' validity
- Be available to attend COP29 for at least one week, ideally both
- Participate in four online preparatory workshops prior to COP29 (dates to be determined)
- Commit to completing a small project based on their COP29 experience
- Represent Australia and AYFICE by demonstrating professionalism throughout COP29

Successful candidates will receive:
- Round-trip airfare from any major Australian city to Baku for COP29
- Coverage for accommodation and travel insurance during the event
- A daily allowance for food, drinks, and personal needs while in Baku

In addition to financial backing, delegates will be provided with:
- Accreditation to access the COP29 Blue Zone
- The opportunity to join a diverse team of young Australians
- Guidance in planning and executing a project related to COP29 (details below), with support provided before, during, and after the conference
- Access to up to four preparatory workshops in the lead-up to the event
- Briefings and opportunities to shadow Australian negotiators, government officials, and climate leaders
- Opportunities to speak at COP-related events

Delegates will attend COP as both individuals and members of the AYFICE team. While some group activities and meetings will be expected, participants will have considerable flexibility to manage their time at COP independently.

Please note that the application includes several detailed questions (200-500 words each). We recommend saving your responses as you complete them. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview, which will take place one or two weeks after the application deadline. Final decisions will be communicated by the end of September.
