The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Cairo is looking for a dedicated volunteer to assist with translating and subtitling content for their flagship podcast, Voices of Impact: UN in Egypt. This podcast serves as a platform to showcase the invaluable contributions of the United Nations in Egypt and its enduring partnership with the country, which has been a founding member of the UN. Through this initiative, the podcast aims to inspire individuals, communities, and stakeholders to actively participate in driving sustainable development and fostering positive change.
Established in 1949, UNIC Cairo is part of a global network of United Nations Information Centres, Services, and Offices operating in over 60 countries worldwide. These centres play a vital role in connecting the United Nations with local communities by disseminating its messages in languages that resonate with diverse audiences. Their mission extends to delivering reliable, up-to-date information to a broad spectrum of individuals, including students, educators, journalists, government officials, and civil society members.
For this specific project, the selected volunteer will undertake tasks related to translation and subtitling. This involves creating Arabic subtitles for the podcast, ensuring they align with the original content while preserving the intended tone and meaning. Additionally, the volunteer will translate associated communication materials from English to Arabic. They will be provided with detailed guidelines to ensure consistency and clarity in messaging.
Candidates for this role should have at least two to three years of experience in translation, particularly from English to Arabic. Proficiency in subtitling software or prior experience in creating subtitles will be advantageous. Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce translations that faithfully reflect the original message are essential skills for this assignment.
The position requires a time commitment of approximately one to five hours per week for a duration of 12 weeks. Fluency in both Arabic and English is mandatory, with Arabic at a native level.
