For young people in Africa who are enthusiastic about using research to solve climate change, the Climate Research Workshop is a distinguished six-month training program. This program offers intellectual development, capacity building, information exchange, and structured training sessions to provide participants with the necessary knowledge and abilities to become independent climate researchers.

Young scholars with a track record of addressing climate change between the ages of 18 and 35 are eligible to apply. It's a great chance for ambitious researchers to learn about science, work together on worthwhile projects, and help find solutions for climate change.

Program Timeline

  • February 28th, 2025: Climate Research Workshop Closes;
  • March 10th, 2025: Shortlisted participants Interviews;
  • March 20th, 2025: Acceptance sent out;

**What They Offer**

The **EcoSciGen Climate Research Workshop** provides an extensive, hands-on training program aimed at equipping participants with the necessary skills to become expert writers and science communicators. The workshop begins with a **scientific research training** that is beginner-friendly, followed by a comprehensive **climate change training** to deepen participants' understanding of the topic and its intersections. The training period lasts for three months, after which participants will collaborate on research related to climate change, with the goal of publishing their findings in peer-reviewed journals over the next three months.

**Scientific Research Training (2 Months)**
Participants will receive training in essential research skills such as research design, literature review, data collection and analysis, effective writing, communication, and project management. The goal is to provide young scholars with the tools and resources needed to carry out independent research, fostering a new generation of researchers who will transform their knowledge into action.

**Climate Change Knowledge Training (1 Month)**
In this phase, participants will gain insights into the history of Earth processes, the physical science behind climate change, and potential climate solutions. The training will be delivered through virtual sessions featuring diverse speakers, workshops, and group activities, encouraging participants to work together to find innovative solutions and expand the scientific understanding of climate change.

**Collaboration and Mentorship (3 Months)**
Participants will collaborate based on their individual backgrounds to write a research paper focused on climate-related issues. Over the course of three months, they will be mentored by academics who will supervise their work, helping them apply their training and enhance their research skills.
Eligibility Criteria
exhibited a dedication to tackling climate change within their community;
displayed rudimentary education and research expertise;
be in the 18–35 age range when the workshop begins (April 1st, 2025);

speak and write English with ease;
pledge to finish the training by September 30th and to mentor others following the workshop;
possess the ability to communicate consistently during the workshop with mentors and the EcoSciGen team via email and the internet;
abide by the graduation requirements of the Climate Research Workshop, which will be communicated upon program admission;
