FULLY FUNDED WITH STIPENDS: Apply for the Mo Ibrahim Foundation Leadership Fellowship Programme 2026 for young African leaders
Applications are now open for the 2026 Mo Ibrahim Foundation Leadership Fellowship Programme. Established in 2011, the Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships aim to identify and mentor the next generation of exceptional African leaders.
Each year, three Fellows are selected to work in the executive offices of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Abidjan, the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, or the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva. Fellows receive a stipend of $100,000 and spend 12 months developing both technical expertise and leadership skills while contributing directly to research and policy design. A unique aspect of the fellowship is the chance to benefit from the direct mentorship of the heads of these host organisations.
Beyond the fellowship year, participants join the Now Generation Network (NGN), an active community of young leaders who continue to share knowledge and contribute towards building a stronger and more inclusive Africa.
The programme is open to nationals of African countries who hold a master’s degree, have at least seven years of relevant work experience, and are under the age of 40, or under 45 in the case of women with children. Additional eligibility requirements may apply depending on the host institution.
Applications for the 2026 Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships are now being accepted. Interested candidates can find more details and apply through the official links to AfDB, ITC, and UNECA.
