The Volvo Environment Prize 2026 is now accepting nominations for individuals whose scientific work has made a meaningful contribution to environmental protection and sustainable development. Established in 1990, this international prize is widely recognized for honoring research that drives real-world environmental progress.

About the Prize

The award is managed by an independent foundation based at the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics in Stockholm. While the Volvo Group provides financial support to the Foundation, the selection process is carried out independently through a transparent, multi-stage review.

The evaluation process includes:

• An open call for nominations

• Assessment by a Scientific Committee

• Final decision by an international Prize Jury

Nominees are evaluated based on:

• Outstanding scientific quality

• Demonstrated influence outside academia

• A strong record of research, publications, and practical impact

Nomination process

• All nominations must be submitted in English

• Once submitted, a nomination remains active for three years
