Applications are now open for the Global Integrated Flood and Drought Management Competition for Youth-Led Projects 2026–2027, an international initiative that supports innovative solutions developed by young people to strengthen community resilience against floods and droughts.

Organised under the Associated Programme on Flood Management (APFM) and the Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP)—joint programmes of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Global Water Partnership (GWP)—the competition seeks to empower youth to lead practical, community-based projects that improve disaster preparedness, response, and long-term resilience.

As climate change continues to increase the frequency and severity of floods and droughts, the competition recognises the important role young innovators can play in developing scalable and sustainable solutions that address local challenges.

Eligible Projects

Proposed projects should:

• Be led by young people aged 18–35
• Demonstrate active participation of youth throughout the project
• Focus on improving resilience to floods and droughts
• Deliver practical, measurable, and results-oriented outcomes
• Be completed within a maximum of nine months
• Show potential for long-term sustainability and scalability
• Include an innovative approach, such as combining Indigenous knowledge with scientific methods, promoting community engagement, advancing women's participation, or introducing affordable adaptation solutions

Projects should contribute to disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, preparedness, early warning systems, or community resilience.
