The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Academy has officially opened applications for its 2026 intake. This initiative by the MultiChoice Group is designed to nurture the next generation of African storytellers while strengthening the skills of emerging filmmakers across the continent. Through education, mentorship, and practical exposure, MTF aims to raise the standard of film and television production in Africa.
Applicants are invited from individuals who hold an academic background in film, television, media, drama, or a closely related discipline, along with at least one to two years of proven industry experience. Since launching, the program has successfully trained 486 graduates who are now equipped to enter the creative industry after benefiting from hands-on projects, professional training, and expert-led masterclasses. Applications are open across the South African, Southern African, West African, and East African academies.
The MTF Academy offers a fully sponsored, intensive 12-month filmmaking program that blends classroom learning with practical production experience. With academies based in Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, and South Africa, the program supports aspiring filmmakers from 14 African countries by offering real industry exposure, mentorship, and access to strong professional networks. This model prepares participants to compete confidently within the fast-growing entertainment sector.
Throughout the year, students are trained in a wide range of film disciplines such as screenwriting, directing, cinematography, production coordination, and multiple areas of post-production. Graduates from academies outside South Africa receive an accredited certificate from respected partner institutions, including the University of Zambia, Kenyatta University in Kenya, and Pan-Atlantic University in Nigeria. Training is delivered by experienced filmmakers who are actively working in the industry, ensuring that learning remains relevant and practical.
To apply, candidates must submit a concise CV (maximum two pages), a personal motivation statement of no more than 500 words, and copies of official identification documents. Academic records, including certified certificates and transcripts, are required, along with proof of residence.
