The African Development Bank (AfDB) is inviting applications for its 2027 Internship Programme – Session 1, offering eligible young professionals and graduate students an opportunity to gain practical experience within one of Africa’s leading development institutions. The programme provides interns with exposure to the Bank’s work across areas including economic development, finance, investment, governance, sustainability and other strategic fields, while allowing participants to build professional skills and experience in an international working environment.

The internship is open to nationals of African Development Bank member countries who are at least the legal age of majority and will not be older than 30 years when the internship begins. Applicants must currently be enrolled in a recognised master’s degree programme or have completed their qualifying degree within the year preceding the start of the internship. Candidates should be fluent in either English or French and have proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

Applicants may come from a range of academic backgrounds relevant to the Bank’s work. These include economics, finance, investment, statistics, data management, agriculture, engineering, sustainability, risk management, governance, human capital, natural resource management, procurement, operations management, performance monitoring, information technology, communications, legal studies and other related fields.

Selected interns will receive a monthly stipend where applicable, while eligible interns will also have medical insurance covered by the Bank. The programme is designed to provide practical exposure to the Bank’s operations, help participants strengthen their professional and workplace skills, and give them opportunities to develop networks within the African development sector.

The internship will last between three and six months and is expected to begin in January 2027. Placements may be based at the African Development Bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, or at one of its regional or country offices. Depending on the requirements of the hiring department, internships may be conducted remotely or on-site.

Applicants will be required to submit a comprehensive CV and proof of current enrolment in a master’s degree programme or a copy of their qualifying degree. The application deadline is 12 October 2026.
