Applications are now open for the African Youth Negotiators Fellowship (AYNF) — Cohort 5, a continental leadership programme focused on preparing young Africans to actively participate in global climate diplomacy and multilateral negotiations.
The fellowship is implemented by the Green Africa Youth Organization in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Authority Ghana and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network.
AYNF aims to strengthen African representation within international climate governance spaces, particularly processes under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and engagement toward COP31 negotiations.
Fellowship Structure
The programme follows a three-phase learning and leadership model:
Phase 1 — Foundational Learning
- Completion of Climate Science 101 on the Ghana Climate Literacy Portal
- Certificate submission required before application
- Additional learning assessments may follow during selection
Phase 2 — Hybrid Training in Ghana
- One-week intensive training programme
- Advanced climate negotiation simulations
- Policy drafting and diplomacy exercises
- Deep understanding of UNFCCC systems and regional climate policy frameworks
Phase 3 — Mentorship & COP31 Engagement
- Expert mentorship and thematic negotiation labs
- Development of policy briefs and advocacy outputs
- Coordinated participation before, during, and after COP31 processes
