CASH PRIZES: Apply for the UNESCO-UNEVOC Skills in Action photography contest 2025 for youth
Applications are open for the UNESCO-UNEVOC Skills in Action photography contest, inviting both amateur and professional photographers who have a passion for youth empowerment and skill development to take part. Anyone aged 18 and above who owns the rights to their photo submission is eligible to join.
This year’s contest focuses on how technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is equipping young people with skills for the digital future, particularly through artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. Participants are encouraged to submit images that reflect real, powerful moments in TVET environments — moments where innovation, inclusion, sustainability, or peace-building are at the forefront. Whether it’s showcasing students working with coding software, engaging with virtual or augmented reality, or highlighting how marginalized groups like girls or youth with disabilities are succeeding in digital training spaces, the competition is looking for authentic, high-quality visual stories.
Photos must be clear, high-resolution images of at least 3000 pixels on the longest side. While professional camera equipment is ideal, smartphone photos taken at the highest quality settings may also be accepted depending on image quality. Photographers must have obtained consent from all identifiable individuals in their photos, especially if the image focuses on one person. Light edits and enhancements are allowed, but must be clearly noted upon submission.
Entries that are computer-generated, watermarked, collaged, or unrelated to the competition’s theme will not be considered. All images must be submitted in JPEG format, though RAW or TIFF versions are also welcomed for best quality. Each submission should include a descriptive title, a short paragraph (no more than 75 words) that explains the story behind the photo, and information on when and where it was captured.
The deadline to submit your entries is 15 September 2025. Completed submission forms and image files must be sent via email to unevoc.skills(at)unesco.org.
Winners will receive cash prizes of $750 for first place, $500 for second, and $350 for third, along with certificates and international recognition through UNESCO-UNEVOC’s website and social media channels. All photos submitted may also be featured in future publications and campaigns by UNESCO-UNEVOC.
